Eastern Michigan Writing Project Teacher Research Group
We are a group of K-college teachers who are committed to inquiring into our teaching--raising questions that intrigue us as individuals, studying our questions over the course of a year by collecting data (like field notes or interviews or surveys or samples of student work) and analyzing that data, and finding ways to go public with our findings. Most of all, we are committed to changing our practice: to puzzling out what we can do better to help our students' learning and putting into action what we discover.

Raising Teacher Confidence in the Classroom
Hello, I am a graduate teaching student and I am working on a research project on how to raise teacher confidence. I hypothesize that teacher research is a great way to validate teaching techniques and give teachers the confidence to try new approaches in their classrooms. Does anyone have any advice on where I can turn to find more information on this topic? Thanks, Katie
Following and connecting
As a member of a teacher inquiry group who studied student engagement, I am interested in following others who have participated in such groups and/or are beginning the process of teacher inquiry. I am a veteran teacher. I found that our inquiry group changed the way I viewed teaching in my classroom. My confidence as an educator was reinforced and the experience has set me on a path of advocating for teachers to form inquiry groups. Thus, I and the other members of my group call ourselves T.I.P. (Teacher Inquiry Practioners) and are starting new inquiry groups in various Ohio locations. We consider ourselves a grassroots group sans university or school district affiliation, spreading the word that teachers are researches in their classrooms who have much to offer to the discourse on effective teaching. We are a fledgling group. We hope to connect with other groups to strengthen the concept of teachers as experts capable of reforming and improving our individual classrooms. We would appreciate contact with any entity that has taken on a similar focus and is interested in sharing or developing an on line clearinghouse. I am thrilled to have found this site with the work of the Eastern Michigan Writing Project.

Wonderful to read your response...and I'm anxious to hear how you respond to the posts. Are your groups associated with NWP sites? How did they get started?

As a facilitator of Quad Cities Area Writing Project, I'm anxious to hear more about how this project develops. We are considering a similar inquiry study group in our area.
